Portuguese Sausage and Clam Stew
This hearty stew from Portugal combines smoky sausage, sweet clams, and tomatoes in a rich, oceanic broth—a warm and inviting choice for family gatherings. Using your Geedel manual food chopper to quickly prep herbs and vegetables lays the flavorful foundation for this sun-soaked Mediterranean dish.
Ingredients:
- 300g Portuguese chouriço or Spanish chorizo, sliced
- 500g clams (cleaned and purged)
- 1 onion, 1 red bell pepper, 3 garlic cloves
- 1 can (400g) diced tomatoes
- 1 cup white wine
- Handful of fresh parsley, salt, and black pepper
- Olive oil, crusty bread (for serving)
Instructions:
1.Chop the aromatic vegetables:
Cut the onion, bell pepper, and garlic into chunks. Fit the chopping blade into the Geedel food chopper, add all vegetable chunks, secure the lid, and turn the handle until evenly minced.

2.Sauté and simmer:
Heat olive oil in a stew pot and cook the sausage slices until they release their oils. Set aside. In the same pot, sauté the minced vegetables until softened. Pour in white wine and bring to a boil. Add diced tomatoes and the cooked sausage. Simmer over low heat for 15 minutes.
3.Add the seafood:
Stir in the cleaned clams, cover the pot, and cook over medium heat for 5–8 minutes, until all clams open. Discard any unopened clams.
4.Garnish and serve:
Quickly chop fresh parsley in the manual food chopper and sprinkle over the stew. Serve with crusty bread to soak up the flavorful broth.
Summary:
The layers of flavor in this stew come from the perfect blend of sausage, seafood, and vegetables. The Geedel vegetable chopper quickly delivers uniformly chopped vegetables, ensuring a balanced taste in every bite—a shortcut to exploring authentic Portuguese home-style cooking.
