A comforting classic Italian-inspired dish made with tender ground beef, rich tomato sauce, and perfectly cooked spaghetti. Ready in under 40 minutes!

🛒 Ingredients (4 servings)

  • Spaghetti – 400g (14 oz)

  • Ground beef – 500g (1 lb)

  • Olive oil – 2 tbsp

  • Onion – 1 medium, finely chopped

  • Garlic – 3 cloves, minced

  • Carrot – 1 small, finely diced (optional for sweetness)

  • Celery stick – 1, finely diced (optional)

  • Canned chopped tomatoes – 400g (14 oz)

  • Tomato paste – 2 tbsp

  • Beef stock – ½ cup (120ml)

  • Dried oregano – 1 tsp

  • Dried basil – 1 tsp (or fresh basil leaves for garnish)

  • Salt & pepper – to taste

  • Parmesan cheese – freshly grated, for serving

👩🍳 Instructions

  1. Cook the spaghetti

    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.

    • Cook spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente.

    • Drain and set aside, reserving ½ cup of pasta water.

  2. Prepare the Bolognese sauce

    • Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.

    • Add onion, garlic, carrot, and celery. Sauté for 5 minutes until softened.

    • Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.

  3. Add the tomato base

    • Stir in canned tomatoes, tomato paste, and beef stock.

    • Add oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.

    • Simmer uncovered for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.

  4. Combine pasta and sauce

    • Toss the cooked spaghetti with the Bolognese sauce.

    • Add a splash of reserved pasta water if needed to loosen.

  5. Serve & enjoy

    • Plate spaghetti, top with extra sauce, and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

    • Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.

🌟 Tips & Variations

  • Use half beef, half pork mince for extra flavor.

  • Add a splash of red wine when cooking the meat for a richer sauce.

  • For a healthier twist, use whole wheat spaghetti or zucchini noodles.
