Australian Pear & Goat Cheese Shredded Pastry Puff

On a sunny weekend in Melbourne, the Geedel Vegetable Chopper helps you create an elegant pear and goat cheese pastry. Local nashi pears shred into translucent strips in just three rotations, while the manual chopper crumbles creamy goat cheese—no kneading needed. Layered on store-bought pastry and baked, each bite balances sweet pear and tangy cheese, perfect with a cup of Earl Grey for a truly relaxing treat. 

Ingredients (for 1 puff)

- 1 sheet of ready-made puff pastry (thawed if frozen)  

- 1 nashi pear (peeled)  

- 60g goat cheese  

- 30g crushed almonds  

- 2 tbsp honey  

- 1/8 tsp cinnamon powder  

- A few drops of lemon juice  

- 1 egg (beaten, for brushing the surface)  

Instructions

Shred the Pear

Cut the peeled pear into 3cm segments and place them in the Geedel vegetable chopper. Rotate three times to achieve thin strips. Soak the shreds in water with a few drops of lemon juice to prevent browning. This method ensures even distribution over the pastry without gaps. When baked, the pear shreds soften and release their natural sweetness without making the pastry soggy.  

Crumble the Goat Cheese

Cut the goat cheese into small chunks and place them in the manual food chopper. Rotate three times to achieve fine, even crumbs. This method saves effort and prevents the cheese from sticking to the knife. The finely crumbled cheese blends seamlessly with the pear shreds, offering a creamy texture in every bite without being overly rich.  

Assemble the Puff

Lay the puff pastry on a baking tray, leaving a 1cm border around the edges. Brush the surface with the beaten egg. Spread the well-drained pear shreds evenly, followed by the crumbled goat cheese, crushed almonds, a drizzle of honey, and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Fold the edges of the pastry inward and brush them with egg wash. Bake at 190°C for 25 minutes, until the pastry turns golden and the edges are slightly crisp.  

Afternoon Tea Enjoyment  

Let the puff cool for 5 minutes before slicing into small pieces. Serve on a fine china plate with a hot cup of Earl Grey tea. Each bite offers a perfect balance—the crispness of the pastry, the sweetness of the pear, the tang of the goat cheese, and the nutty aroma of almonds.
