Scottish Haggis with Neeps and Tatties

As Scotland's "national dish," haggis might sound intimidating, but its rich, peppery filling paired with creamy mashed turnips (neeps) and potatoes (tatties) is truly comforting and hearty. Using your Geedel hand vegetable chopper efficiently processes the oats and spices, and creates incredibly smooth mashed sides, making the experience of preparing this legendary dish much more approachable.

Ingredients:  

Simplified Haggis Filling:

300g minced lamb liver/heart (or mixed lamb mince)  

1 onion  

¼ cup steel-cut oats  

1 tablespoon lamb fat or butter  

1 teaspoon black pepper  

½ teaspoon allspice  

Salt  

For the Neeps and Tatties:  

1 medium rutabaga (swede), peeled and cubed  

500g potatoes (such as Yukon Gold), peeled and cubed  

Butter, milk, salt, white pepper  

Instructions: 

1. Prepare the haggis filling:

   Cut the onion into chunks and finely chop using the Geedel manual food chopper with the chopping blade. In a pan, sauté the onion and minced meat in lamb fat until cooked through. Add oats and all spices, and stir to combine.  

   Transfer the mixture to the container and use the mixing paddle to pulse a few times, blending it further for easier shaping.

2. Make the mashed sides:

   Boil the rutabaga and potatoes separately until very tender. Drain well.  

   For the potatoes: Empty the container, add potatoes, butter, warm milk, salt, and white pepper. Switch to the mixing paddle and turn steadily until smooth. Set aside.  

   For the neeps: Repeat the process with the rutabaga (add a pinch of nutmeg if desired).

3. Assemble and serve:  

   Shape the haggis mixture into patties or a loaf, then pan-fry or bake until heated through and lightly browned.  

   Serve the hot haggis alongside the creamy neeps and tatties on a warm plate.

4. Optional pairing:

   Drizzle with a simple whisky cream sauce or enjoy as is for a robust, comforting meal.
