Deep-Dish Caramel Apple & Almond Crumble

This dessert is the epitome of comfort food—warm, spiced, and indulgently sweet with a satisfying crunchy topping. Using your Geedel food slicer and chopper streamlines the most tedious part of the process: slicing the apples and chopping the nuts. It transforms this classic bake into a quick and easy dessert perfect for any night of the week.

Ingredients:

For the Apple Filling:

6-7 medium-sized, firm apples (a mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp works well)

1/4 cup unsalted butter

1/3 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup pure maple syrup

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the Almond Crumble Topping:

3/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup old-fashioned oats

 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

 1/2 cup raw almonds

 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cubed

 1/2 teaspoon salt

For Serving:

Vanilla ice cream

Store-bought or homemade caramel sauce

Instructions:

1.  Prepping the Apples in Record Time:

Peel and core your apples. The most efficient way to get uniformly thin apple slices is by using your Geedel vegetable slicer and chopper. Attach the slicing blade. Feed the apple quarters through the chute and press down. You'll have a mountain of perfectly even apple slices in under a minute. This efficient vegetable cutter ensures the apples cook evenly, resulting in a perfect filling—no mushy or undercooked bits.

2.  Making the Filling:

In a large skillet, melt the 1/4 cup of butter over medium heat. Add all the sliced apples, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sauté for 5-6 minutes until the apples just begin to soften. Sprinkle the tablespoon of flour over the apples and stir to coat. Add the brown sugar and maple syrup, stirring until everything is well combined and bubbly. Cook for another 2 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Pour the entire apple mixture into a deep-dish pie plate or a 9x9 inch baking dish.

3.  Creating the Nutty Crumble Topping:

Now, use your Geedel chopper to make the crumble. Ensure it's completely dry. Place the raw almonds in the chopper and pulse several times until they are coarsely chopped. Be careful not to over-pulse into a powder. Add the cold, cubed butter, flour, oats, brown sugar, and salt to the chopper with the almonds. Pulse several more times until the mixture resembles coarse, sandy crumbs with visible almond pieces. 4.  Baking to Perfection:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Evenly sprinkle the almond crumble topping over the warm apple filling in the baking dish, covering it completely.

5. Baking and Serving:

Place the dish on a baking sheet (to catch any potential drips) and bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly around the edges.

Let the crumble cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. This allows the filling to thicken. Serve warm, topped with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream and a lavish drizzle of caramel sauce.
