Argentinian Beef Empanadas

On a cool autumn night in Buenos Aires, the Geedel vegetable choppermakes dicing beef and bell peppers quick and mess-free—so you can enjoy golden, crispy empanadas with warmly spiced filling, served alongside mate tea. It’s the ultimate snack for an Argentine get-together: easy to share, deeply cozy, and full of flavor.

Ingredients

- 8 ready-made empanada discs (round)  

- 200g ground beef  

- ½ red bell pepper (seeded)  

- ¼ onion  

- 2 garlic cloves  

- ¼ tsp mate powder (a classic Argentine touch)  

- ½ tsp cumin  

- ¼ tsp salt  

- A pinch of black pepper  

- 1 egg (beaten, for brushing)  

- 5g toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)  

Steps

1. Prep the Filling – Keep It Even & Flavorful  

Cut the bell pepper into strips, then pulse in a food dicer chopper using the dicing setting—one press gives you neat 5mm pieces. Thinly slice the onion and chop finely with an onion chopper. Grate the garlic into a paste using a grater with container. In a bowl, combine the ground beef, bell pepper, onion, garlic, mate powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix in one direction for about 5 minutes until the filling is well-combined and holds together.

2. Fill & Seal – Keep It Neat & Pretty  

Place an empanada disc on your work surface. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of filling onto one half, leaving the edges clear. Fold the dough over into a half-moon shape, and press the edges with a fork to seal tightly. Arrange the empanadas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush each with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

3. Bake & Serve – Warm, Crispy & Shareable  

Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F). Bake the empanadas for 15–18 minutes, until the crust is golden and crisp. To check if they’re done, insert a toothpick into the center—it should come out clean, with no pink juices. Let them cool for 2 minutes before serving on a wooden board.
