Indonesian Chicken Satay with Peanut Dipping Sauce

by geedelsales1 05 Jan 2026 0 comments

These aromatic, char-grilled chicken skewers served with a rich, sweet-and-savory peanut sauce are the essence of Southeast Asian street food. Using your Geedel manual food chopper to quickly prepare the complex spice marinade and smooth peanut sauce makes preparing this exotic dish as simple and enjoyable as threading the skewers themselves.

Ingredients:

For the chicken skewers:

500g boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into strips

2 cloves garlic

1 small piece of ginger

1 tsp turmeric powder

1 tbsp coconut sugar or brown sugar

2 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp vegetable oil

For the peanut dipping sauce:

½ cup roasted peanuts

1 small shallot

1 clove garlic

1 small bird's eye chili (optional)

2 tbsp coconut milk

1 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp lime juice

1 tsp brown sugar

Water, as needed

Instructions:

1.  Make the spice marinade:

Cut the garlic and ginger into chunks. Fit the criss-cross chopping blade into your Geedel food chopper. Add the garlic and ginger and turn the handle to chop finely.

Add the turmeric powder, coconut sugar, soy sauce, and vegetable oil. Switch to the mixing paddle, secure the lid, and turn the handle to blend all ingredients into a smooth paste.

Coat the chicken strips thoroughly in the marinade and let marinate for at least 30 minutes. Then thread the chicken onto bamboo skewers.

2.  Make the smooth peanut sauce:

Empty, wipe, and dry the container. Reattach the chopping blade. Add the roasted peanuts and turn the handle to chop into coarse crumbs. Add the shallot, garlic, and chili (if using) and pulse a few more times to combine.

Switch back to the mixing paddle. Add the coconut milk, soy sauce, lime juice, brown sugar, and 2-3 tablespoons of water. Secure the lid and turn the handle continuously until the sauce becomes smooth and thick, achieving a perfect dipping consistency. Add a little more water if too thick.

3.  Cook the chicken skewers:

Cook under a broiler/grill or on a barbecue grill for 3-4 minutes per side, until cooked through and nicely charred.

4.  Serve:

Serve the hot satay skewers with the homemade peanut dipping sauce. Cucumber slices and onion rings make excellent refreshing sides.

Summary:

The soul of this dish lies in the complex fragrance of the marinade and the rich texture of the dipping sauce. The Geedel vegetable chopper not only quickly creates a fine marinade base but also effortlessly transforms hard peanuts and aromatics into a silky sauce. It's your reliable partner for exploring Southeast Asian flavors and recreating an authentic street food experience at home.
