Nothing beats a golden, gooey Tuna Meltcrispy bread, creamy tuna salad, and perfectly melted cheese that pulls apart in long, satisfying strings. Its quick, nostalgic, and endlessly satisfying for lunch, dinner, or a late-night craving. The secret to that irresistible cheese layer? A few effortless shreds from the Geedel Rotary Cheese Grater.

🐟️Ingredients

(Makes 2 hearty sandwiches)

1 can (5 oz / 142 g) tuna in water or oil, drained well

23 tbsp mayonnaise (adjust for creaminess)

1 small celery stalk, finely diced

2 tbsp finely chopped red onion or green onion

1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional, for a little tang)

Salt & black pepper to taste

4 slices sturdy bread (sourdough, rye, or classic white)

46 oz cheddar, American, or Swiss cheese

2 tbsp softened butter or mayonnaise (for spreading on bread)

Optional add-ins: sliced tomato, pickles, or a pinch of paprika

🧈Step-by-Step

Mix the Tuna Filling

In a bowl, flake the drained tuna with a fork. Stir in mayonnaise, diced celery, chopped onion, Dijon (if using), salt, and pepper until creamy and well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning. Set aside.

Shred the Cheese

Attach the fine or coarse shredding blade to your cheese shredder hand crank (fine for ultra-melty, coarse for bigger, bubbly pulls). Place a block of cheese in the chamber, use the food pusher, and crank steadily until you have a generous pile of uniform shredsabout 23 oz per sandwich.

Assemble the Sandwiches

Spread a thin layer of butter or mayonnaise on the outside of each bread slice (this creates the golden crust). On the inside of two slices, pile the tuna mixture evenly. Top generously with the freshly shredded cheese. Close with the remaining bread slices (buttered side out).

Grill to Perfection

Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place sandwiches in the pan and cook 34 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until the bread is deep golden and the cheese is fully melted and oozy. If the cheese needs extra help melting, cover the pan for the last minute.

🌶️Variations

Spicy Kick  Mix in chopped jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the tuna.

Extra Crunch  Add crushed potato chips inside before grilling.

Lite Version  Use Greek yogurt instead of mayo and lighter cheese like reduced-fat cheddar.

Open-Faced  Skip the top slice and broil for a bubbly cheese top.

Cheese Swap  Try provolone, Havarti, or a mix of cheddar and mozzarella.

🥪Final Bite

A great Tuna Melt is all about balance: creamy filling, crisp bread, and that glorious melted cheese blanket. With the cheese slicer handling the shredding in seconds, you get perfect, even melts every timeno clumps, no uneven coverage. Grab your kitchen grater and make your next one legendary.
