Classic American Meatloaf with Onion Mushroom Gravy
A steaming plate of homestyle meatloaf smothered in rich gravy is an eternal classic of American comfort food. Its delicious secret lies in the even mixing of the meat and the depth of flavor in the gravy. Your Geedel hand vegetable chopper not only processes vegetables to a fine texture for a tender meatloaf but also quickly creates a perfectly smooth, lump-free gravy.
Ingredients:
For the meatloaf:
700g ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
1 onion
2 celery stalks
1 garlic clove
2/3 cup breadcrumbs
1/2 cup milk
1 egg
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper
For the onion mushroom gravy:
1 onion
200g mushrooms
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
2 cups beef broth
Salt and pepper
Instructions:
1. Prepare the finely chopped vegetable mixture:
Cut the onion, celery, and garlic into chunks. Install the chopping blade in your Geedel manual food chopper.
Add all the vegetable chunks, close the lid tightly, and turn the handle until everything is chopped into very even, fine pieces. Set aside.

2. Mix the meatloaf ingredients:
Switch to the mixing paddle attachment. Combine the ground beef, chopped vegetables, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir in one direction until all ingredients are thoroughly and evenly combined.
3. Bake the meatloaf:
Shape the meat mixture into a loaf in a baking dish. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 75°C.
4. Make the smooth gravy:
During the last 20 minutes of baking, start the gravy. Chop the onion and mushrooms into chunks, then quickly pulse in the chopper until finely minced.
In a pan, sauté the minced onion and mushrooms in butter until soft. Switch to the mixing paddle, add the flour, broth, salt, and pepper to the container, and pulse a few times to mix into a liquid.
Pour this mixture into the pan with the sautéed mushrooms and onions. Stir and bring to a boil, then simmer until thickened. Serve the gravy over sliced meatloaf.
Summary:
The comforting taste of this homestyle meatloaf comes from meticulous ingredient preparation. The Geedel chopper ensures finely chopped vegetables and evenly mixed filling, avoiding a coarse texture. Its mixing function also streamlines gravy-making, giving this classic main dish a restaurant-quality refinement.
